Amir meets British High Commissioner (The Nation (Pakistan))

Pakistani-origin British boxer Amir Khan Saturday met with British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Philip Barton CMG OBE here at British High Commission.

Amir is in Pakistan to seek support in establishing a boxing academy in Islamabad.

Amir commented: “I am grateful to the British High Commissioner on his support to my plans of training Pakistani boxers.

As a British Pakistani, I always felt privileged to be part of the deep connections between UK and Pakistan that are embedded in the historical and cultural ties between the two countries.

I fully encourage other international sportsmen to visit Pakistan and hope international sports will revive in Pakistan soon.” The British High Commissioner said: “Amir is a great ambassador for sports both in UK and in Pakistan.

He personifies the cultural bonds between the two nations including our sheer love for sports.

I am delighted over Amir’s plans of establishing a boxing academy in Pakistan.

The young talent needs to be nurtured and supported and I am sure the academy will produce many Pakistani boxing champions in future.”-
