Amir Muqam terms appointment of Eng Shaukat as governor prepoll rigging

Peshawar: The senior central vice president Pakistan Muslim League –N Engineer Amir Muqam has demanded the appointment of impartial and neutral governor to ensure free and fair election.

Engineer Amir Muqam, who is recently appointed as coordinator for FATA has termed the appointment of Engineer Shaukatullah as governor of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa is prepoll rigging saying that under a political governor free and fair election in Fata could not be expected.

Speaking at a news conference at his residence at Hayatabad on Monday he said that the holding of free and fair election under the political governor was not possible, asking the authorities to appoint an impartial governor.

He said that Governor KPK was the chief executive of Fata and being head of fata he will interfere in the election process in Fata. “Father and brother of sitting governor will contest election from Fata therefore he could not remain impartial in this election,” he said adding that he was not against the personality of Engineer Shaukatullah but being a political man he would definitely interfere in election to favour his supporters.

Amir Muqam said that they would have no objection on the appointment of tribal governor but he must be impartial having no interest with the election in tribal belt.

The PMLN leader said that his party would participate in All Parties Conference called by ANP under the leadership of Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif who will be accompanied by opposition leader in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

Thanking the party leadership for appointing him as coordinator for Fata, he said he would organize the party in Fata and accepted the job as challenge for which the party leadership reposed confidence in him.

Criticizing the PPP leadership, he suggested the president Asif Ali Zardari to stop playing tricks and conspiracies as the time demands practical steps for free and fair election.
