SHC puts principal secretary to governor Sindh on notice

Karachi: The Sindh High Court SHC on Wednesday put principal secretary to governor Sindh on notice in a contempt of court application filed by province chancellor of Shah Abdul Latif University against termination of his job.

In the contempt application, moved by province chancellor of Shah Abdul Latif University, Abdullah Phulpoto, it was submitted that the court through order passed on 20.12.2012 in a lawsuit, had restrained the principal secretary to governor Sindh from terminating applicant from service as pro vice chancellor of the university.

He submitted that despite court’s orders principal secretary to governor Sindh has issued his termination letter on January 31, 2013. Therefore he pleaded the court to initiate contempt proceedings against principal secretary for flouting court orders.

The applicant submitted that he was professor in BPS20 at Shah Abdul Latif University and retired in year 2007. He said that before the date of superannuation he was appointed as province chancellor of the university on 28.9.2007 for two years. However he said that his tenure was extended two times.

Applicant submitted that his tenure will expire in September 2013, though he said that in order to appoint their own person on the post, vice chancellor of the university was trying to terminating him without any plausible reason.

The single bench of SHC comprising Justice Tasnim Ahmed issued notice to alleged contemnor and put off the hearing of the case till February 22.
