ATC awards death sentence to three

KARACHI: Anti-Terrorism Court-IV (ATC-IV) on Monday awarded death sentenced ‘twice’ to three accused in a kidnapping and murder case.

Shujjat Ali alias Shaaji, Shahzad Memon and Mohammad Farhan were found guilty of abducting a man, Mohammad Hussain, for ransom and killing him after kidnapping him on August 31, 2010.

ATC-IV Judge pronounced the judgment after recording evidence and final arguments from both sides and awarded death sentence to them on two counts. The judge also ordered confiscating their property.

According to prosecution, suspects Shujat and his accomplices Shahzad and Farhan kidnapped Mohammad Nawaz, who was a trader in August 31, 2010. They demanded Rs10million protection money from his brother Mohammad Yar and extended him threats of killing in case of non-payment.

Suspects had also received extorting money Rs19,65,000 from victim’s family. Police had found victim’s body from remits of the Keamari.

On spy information Inspector Mohammad Babar with his police party arrested three suspects near the Native Jetty Bridge on 7th December 2010.

A case, FIR No (370/2010) was registered under Sections 302, 365-A and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 at the Airport police station.
