Bank robbery foiled as guard, two alleged bandits killed

KARACHI: A security guard of a private bank was shot dead over robbery resistance, while police killed two fleeing bandits in an alleged encounter in Solider Bazaar of the city on Monday.

Police said at least three to four armed bandits barged into Al-Habib Metropolitan Bank branch situated in Khalid Bin Walid Road, Off Tariq Road, PECHS area of the city, within the remit of Ferozabad police station.

The bandits tried to hold the staff hostage at gunpoint, but the security guard of bank Karim Gul Khan, 52, son of Khan Dad Khan, foiled the robbery bid but the bandits shot him dead on resistance.

On information, area police arrived at the bank and chased the fleeing bandits as shootout took place near Solider Bazaar. The police in exchange of firing killed two bandits on the spot, while other accomplices of robbers managed to flee from the scene in the cover of firing. The identity of bandits could not be ascertained yet.

The body of security guard and bandits were moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center JPMC and Civil Hospital Karachi for medicolegal formalities, respectively. Sub Inspector Ferozabad police station Qamar Zaman Khawaja said timely and herrioic effort of guard had saved the bank and employees from robbery.
