HYDERABAD: Closure of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) District Office from Hyderabad would create problems for business community of 13 Districts of Sindh in travelling through national airline of Pakistan, PIA.
This was stated by President Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (HCCI) Goharullah and its Executive Committee members. They urged President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take serious notice of the closure of District Booking Office of PIA. They said that the government in the interest of business community of the province needed to take back the decision to close PIA District Booking Office from Hyderabad in a statement on Thursday.
They informed: “PIA District Booking / Sales Office provides ticket provision facility to the people of 13 districts from Karachi to Sukkur, besides it earns revenue of more than Rs 297 million annually. In the interest of economic stability of the country, the federal government should solve the problems of business community of Sindh, particularly Hyderabad, which is hub of agriculture and industry.”
Hyderabad exports remain to the tune of 81 million dollars annually. Hyderabad FBR Collectorate contributed more than Rs 22.0 billion in the shape of Income Tax, Sales Tax and Excise Duty during the year 2012-2013, they said. President HCCI said that PIA management in the name of saving PIA from losses closed down Hyderabad Airport, which was providing facilities of travel from Hyderabad to upcountry cities like Lahore and Islamabad. Due to these acts, the business community of Hyderabad is unhappy with PIA.
He said that for promotion of industrial sector, ease in air travel was one of the basic needs in modern days. He said according to our information PIA Sales Offices in Dera Ghazi Khan, Dera Ismail Khan, Bahawalpur and Sukkur are generating revenue less than Hyderabad Office. People from Hyderabad, who travel internationally also get benefit from PIA District
Sales Office Hyderabad.
“Hyderabad is city of more than 2.2 million people which provides services to nearby small towns. The city has five Universities. More than three Industrial Estates are also situated in Hyderabad All the people of the area, businessmen and industrial community are being deprived by the facility of air ticketing by closing PIA district Sales Office,” they said.
HCCI President and its Executive Committee members urged the federal government of Pakistan to take back such decision of closing PIA District Office Hyderabad and do not compel the business community to agitate against the injustice.
