Bypolls: JI hails ECP decision about army deployment

KARACHI: JamaateIslami JI Karachi acting Chief Barjees Ahmed has welcomed the decision of Election Commission of Pakistan ECP in connection with the deployment of army in bypolls.

In a statement, Barjees Ahmed said that if the said decision was taken during general elections 2013, then the mandate of the people could not be snatched at any cost. He regretted that despite the demand made by the 17 political and religious parties including JI for the deployment of army personnel in general election, the ECP and caretaker government did not pay any heed towards the said legal demand.

On the occasion, Barjees Ahmed reiterated the party demand to announce the recent results of the general elections as ‘null and void’ and conduct reelection under the supervision of army.

Acting JI Karachi chief said that the criminal elements had hijacked the general elections of May 11, in which they seized the polling stations by force and change the results by marking fake stampings.

“The Chief Election Commissioner soon after the results of general elections of May 11, confessed that the ECP has failed to conduct fair, free and transparent elections, which was an open proof that the recent elections were rigged”, he
