Islamabad: The Caretaker Government has once again reiterated its commitment to hold elections in free, fair and transparent manner.
The reiteration was made during meeting of the Federal Cabinet held in Islamabad on Wednesday with caretaker Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso in the chair.
Later, briefing newsmen about decisions of the cabinet, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Arif Nizami said that the Prime Minister said that the caretaker government would act in a nonpartisan manner.
Answering a question, the Information said that the elections would be credible as all the political parties are participating in it.
The Minister said that the cabinet condemned the recent wave of terrorism in Karachi and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and directed for arrest of those responsible in such acts.
The Cabinet assured to provide all possible assistance to provincial governments in maintaining law and order situation. The Cabinet decided to enhance security of the candidates contesting elections as well as voters.
The Cabinet offered fateha for those martyred in yesterday’s earthquake and acts of terrorism.
The Cabinet was also briefed about energy crisis in the country and steps to ease the situation. Additional resources would be provided to power generation plants.
The cabinet was informed that 7. 91 million tons of wheat would be procured during the current season.
The cabinet also reviewed consumer price index. It was noted that the prices of ten items have decreased and twenty eight remained unchanged.
The cabinet was told that all heroin factories in the country have been destroyed and now not a single factory is working.
It was further informed that MOUs have been signed with twenty nine countries for cooperation in narcotics control.
