QUETTA: Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ibrahim has said coming elections would prove turning point in the history of Pakistan. There will be change in the polls by ballot instead of bullet. He said addressing a meeting of political leaders and representative here Thursday.
He said purport of their visit to Quetta was to extend invitation to political parties for participation in general polls, learning their suggestions, opinions and problems and taking steps for their redressal so that true and real representatives of people reach assemblies by polls.
Chief Election Commissioner told that Army has assured for every possible cooperation for law and order during elections.
He said no application was given for redemarcation of constituencies in Balochistan.
He said Election Commission is committed to free, fair and transparent elections. He said Balochistan is integral part of Pakistan and has a great significance.
Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan and member election Commission Justice (R ) Fazlur Rehman said that it is good sign that no major party has boycotted the polls. They asked people to come forward and elect their true and real representatives through transparent polls. He said in view of situation in Balochistan four member guards team would be provided to every candidate for their security.
Secretary EC said that steps have been taken for stopping rigging and fake votes in the coming polls. He said if Balochistan Chief Secretary understands he can transfer administrative officers.
Referring to new demarcations he said except Karachi no change has been made anywhere in the country.
He announced two days extension in filing of nomination papers on the demand of political leaders in consultation with members of EC. Now nomination papers can be filed by March 31.
He said a code of ethics for media has been prepared and all the parties would be given time on TV channels.
He said provincial government has been directed for making fool proof security measures at the sensitive polling stations. Balochistan chief Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad also spoke on the occasion. Leaders of all the political parties attended the meeting and apprised the meeting of their suggestions.
Earlier Chief Election Commissioner chaired a high level meeting in which Chief Secretary, IG FC, IG police, Secretary Home, Provincial election Commissioner and concerned officers attended. Meeting reviewed law and order situation during the coming polls in Balochistan.
