Election for Chess Federation of Pakistan was postponed Wednesday till the resolution of issues relating to electoral college and nominations for office-bearers by the competent forum.
The election commission headed by Shoaib Mir Memon, Additional Secretary Inter-Provincial Coordination took the decision in this regard in a meeting here at Gun and Country Club, said a press release.
Members of the election commission, including Syed Habib Shah, DDG (Technical) and Mohammad Azam Dar, Director National Federations, Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) attended the meeting. Irfan Ullah Khan, Legal Advisor, PSB was also present on the occasion.
Two groups led Senator Kulsoom Parveen and Hanif Qureshi respectively submitted nomination papers for various offices of the federation.
Both the groups raised objections on the nomination papers for various positions and representatives who would cast votes on behalf of their respective units. Since the issues raised were required to be inquired and adjudicated to ensure free, fair and transparent elections,
the election commission postponed the election.
It may be mentioned that the four provincial sports boards along with Gilgit-Baltistan, Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Islamabad were requested to intimate legitimate, lawful, genuine and duly affiliated chess associations to Pakistan Sports Board
(PSB) so that they could be invited for election. Some of the sports departments did not provide the requisite information to the PSB while some provincial chess associations got the right to vote through courts
