CJ terms strong bar as sine qua non for strong judiciary

ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Wednesday said that there is close nexus between bench and bar which is based on administration of justice, adding that strong bar is sine qua non for strong judiciary to deliver justice in accordance with the constitution and law, thus they both should strive hard for common cause of administration of justice in the society.

The chief justice expressed these views while talking to a 30member delegation of Multan High Court Bar Association headed by its president Mehmood Ashraf Khan, which called on him here at the Supreme Court.

The chief justice appreciated the unprecedented struggle of the legal fraternity for upholding the rule of law, supremacy of the constitution and independence of judiciary in the country and expected that they would continue to play their role in the quick dispensation of justice in the same spirit.

The delegation lauded the role of the chief justice in the enforcement of fundamental rights of the citizens and ensuring accountability and good governance. They also discussed different issues and problems faced by them in their profession.

The delegation apprised the chief justice that there is much pendency at Multan, therefore, number of judges at Circuit Bench Multan may be enhanced to provide speedy justice to litigants.
