KARACHI: In view of ongoing monsoon rains since two days, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Saturday directed all divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, local body organizations and irrigation department to remain on high alert and take immediate steps for draining out accumulated rainwater from roads and low-lying areas.
The chief minister also issued orders to ministers and MPAs to supervise the rehabilitation work in their constituencies along with district administrations and local bodies. He directed KMC officials to drain out rainwater which accumulated on roads across Karachi without any late so that citizens do not face any trouble.
The chief minister also directed them to cleanse rainwater drains so that rainwater could flow easily.
In this regard, Provincial Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Makhdoom Jameel Zaman, called on Sindh Chief Minister at the Chief Minister House and briefed him about ongoing rain situation across Sindh and the steps taken by departments under him.
The provincial minister told that all divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners and PDMA were fully ready to meet any possible emergency situation while monitoring of ongoing rains was being carried out at Monitoring Cells established at district offices.
The chief minister has issued directives to Divisional Commissioners of Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Sukkur and Larkana and all deputy commissioners of districts to remain on high alert to meet any emergency situation. He directed relevant officials to take care of people living in low-lying areas, while arrangements should also be made to shift them to safer areas if needed.
The chief minister also issued directives to irrigation secretary and all chief engineers to plug breaches in minors and conduct the monitoring of weak embankments.
He also directed PDMA to activate all its district offices to tackle rains emergency situation and remain on high alert. The chief minister instructed chief secretary Sindh to monitor all rain situation and issue orders for better coordination among all provincial departments in this regard.
