Court: SC orders trial courts to conclude fake degree cases’ by April 4

ISLAMABAD: Hearing a case pertaining to implementation of its apex court orders in the fake degree holders’ case, a three-member Supreme Court bench on Thursday directed the trial courts to conclude all the cases of fake degree till April 4 and submit a compliance report.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed directed the trial courts lower courts to inform the Election Commission of Pakistan ECP and Supreme Court after concluding all the cases.

During the hearing, the ECP and registrars of the high court’s submitted before the court the reports regarding pending cases of fake degrees across the country.

According to ECP report, 34 cases of bogus degrees were sent to the courts. In Punjab, the number of such cases is 19 while two MPs were acquitted. The chief justice noted that there were only eight cases of forged degrees in Punjab that were currently being heard in Kasur, Lahore, Muzaffargarh, Pak Patan, Rawalpindi, Sahiwal and Sargodha.

The ECP appraised the court that the cases of fake degrees were also revealed in Gujrat and Gujranwala as well.
