Crackdown ordered against millers selling flour at exorbitant rates

KARACHI: All deputy commissioners in their relevant districts have been directed to take effective steps to ensure flour sale at ex-mill rate of Rs33 per kg and retail price of Rs34.50 per kg.

The order was issued as per the directives of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah who took notice of the flour sale at excessive rates. In this regard, Commissioner Karachi Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi chaired a meeting at his office here on Tuesday to ensure sale of flour at the rates fixed by Sindh government. Secretary Food Aftab Ahmed Memon, Chairman Pakistan Flour Mills Association Sindh Circle Chaudhry Ansar Javed and other top officials were also present at the meeting. He ordered crackdown on mill owners selling flour at exorbitant rates. The commissioner said that stern action would be taken against the millers selling the flour at excessive rates.

He said that action against such millers would be launched from Wednesday (today) on daily basis. He said that retailers should also be checked so as to ensure flour sale at government rates, while hoarders should also be taken to task.
