CS-LB polls preparations

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad has directed all the divisional commissioners and regional police officers to complete all preparations and security arrangements for holding local bodies polls in their respective divisions.

A high level meeting here today under his chairmanship, reviewed measures for preparations, arrangements particularly maintaining law and order during polls process. Divisional commissioners and regional police officers briefed the meeting on steps taken for maintaining law and order and ongoing arrangements in their divisions and districts.

Provincial Election Commissioner Balochistan, Secretary S&GAD, Secretary Finance, DIG FC, Additional IG Police, Commandant Balochistan Constabulary and officials of local government attended. Meeting was informed that preparations have been finalised with regard to demarcations of constituencies.

Provincial Election Commissioner told that printing of ballot papers would start form Nov 20 after issuance of final list of contestants and electoral symbols. He aid that strength of staff, polling stations would be double compared to previous general elections. Seven thousand one hundred and ninety wards would have the position of polling stations. Thirty two District Returning Officers, 9 3Returning Officers and 121 Assistant Returning Officers have been posted who are administrative officers.

Meeting reviewed possible security challenges including terrorism in various districts while divisional commissioners apprised of tribal and political disputes in their respective divisions.

Meeting agreed with preparing security plan with availability of FC, Police, Balochistan Constabulary personnel and divisional commissioners were asked to directive their respective deputy commissioners to finalise security arrangements according to availability of security forces.

Chief Secretary in a clear voice said that no effort would be spared for holding free, fair and impartial polls in a peaceful atmosphere. He said that participation of all political parties in LB Polls is reflection of confidence in democracy and system which would not be hurt at any cost.
