Islamabad: An Inland Study Tour comprising of 19 member delegation of Fourteenth Senior Management Course of National Management College, Lahore visited NDMA as an essential component of the Senior Management Course.
The participants included representatives from various occupational groups and services like Pakistan Administrative Service, Provincial Services and Autonomous Bodies, Information and Secretariat Group respectively.
Member Operations NDMA, Brig Mirza Kamran Zia welcomed the delegation and gave detailed presentation on Disaster Management System in Pakistan, National Disaster Management Council’s composition & function, role and mandate of NDMA and Pakistan’s vulnerabilities & preparedness levels.
He also apprised the group about the efforts/measures undertaken at Federal and Regional levels to manage various disasters and also shared with the group, valuable lessons learnt during the process.
Highlighting the future course he briefed that NDMA has shifted focus from Reactive to Pro-active policies and also formulated National DRR Policy and ten years National Disaster Management Plan that envisages ten disaster management priority areas to be implemented over next ten years with emphasis on Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction into Development.
The Chairman NDMA also interacted with the participants and explained NDMA’s initiatives on hazard and risk assessment for informed planning, hazard resilient infrastructure, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and awareness/ capacity among communities for establishment of comprehensive & proactive Disaster Management System within the country.
The briefing was followed by a question & answer session. The delegation thanked Chairman NDMA for apprising them in detail on the Disaster Management Initiatives in Pakistan.
