Demo held against threats to journalist

DAHARKI: Senior journalists, citizens and leaders of national parties staged a sit-in in Ghotki on Sunday against life threats to a journalist. The participants called for protection of Sikandar Ali Bhutto, a senior journalist, ex-vice president of Daharki Press Club, and a TV channel reporter.

On 02 December 2012, a Panchayat of village sentenced Sikander Ali Bhutto to be “executed and fed to dogs” after he reported the domestic violence case of a woman who was beaten up and killed by her husband.

After that Sikandar Ali Bhutto has been leading displaced life since last nine months and receiving life threats because he had provided legal support to a woman.

Senior journalists and citizens have condemned the jirga and staged a sit-in in favour of Sikandar Ali Bhutto. Participating journalists Shams Bhutto, Sadiq Leghari, Ramzan Pirzado, Rizwan Ali, Barkat Shar, Ramesh Kumar, Imran Asif and Azam Suhriyani said that Sub-Inspector Qalu Bhutto, Sahib Dino a landlord, Abdul Lateef, Abdul Majeed and other feudal have been giving him life threats and they must be arrested.

The demonstrators further said that if the justice is not provided, mentioned accused feudalists, higher authorities and police will be responsible for any loss to Sikandar Bhutto.
