Islamabad: French Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Philippe Thiébaud, signed a partnership agreement with Mr. Salman Baig, Chief Executive Officer, Aga Khan Cultural Service Pakistan AKCSP aiming at extending the successful Northern areas projects that have been implemented in the past years.
This agreement focused on the “Skill Development in Heritage Based Planning and Construction” project which provides young women with wood work and business skills. This partnership builds on the ambition of the French Government to reinforce its cooperation directly with local communities. It promotes diversity and sustainable development, and highlights the traditional aspects of the Northern region of Pakistan.
Starting with a budget of 175.000$ in 2012, this partnership with the Aga Khan Cultural Service Pakistan AKCSP was intended to invigorate and strengthen the ability of the local population of Chitral to the traditional arts of embroidery, tapestry, cutting, sewing and upholstery. The ultimate goal of the process would develop and sustain both human and financial capital at the community level.
While travelling in Gilgit-Baltistan the other day the Ambassador Thiébaud visited the Aga Khan Foundation’s projects supported by the French Government in Chitral District.
The visit included the skill training centre in Mastuj village and a health centre in Susoom village financed through the three-year regional health programme in the cross border regions of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan for two millions euros.
