ISLAMABAD: Tehrik Minhajul Quran (TMQ) chief Dr Muhammad Tahirul Qadri on Monday said he was quite hopeful that the upcoming general elections will not be delayed at any cost and held on time.
Talking to media persons on his arrival outside the Supreme Court to represent the hearing of his petition seeking reconstitution of the Election Commission, Dr Qadri said it was the responsibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to meet the transparency requirements in accordance with the constitution to hold the forthcoming general election.
He said the formation of an institution, which had to ensure transparency, was not in accordance with the constitution and law. To queries, he said he did not think that the elections will be delayed. He said that he wanted that the elections should be held in a transparent manner and on time.
He said he had only raised some constitutional questions in his petition. He said how could an Election Commission, which was not formed under the constitution, could be able to hold free, fair and transparent elections.
He said the nominations for the caretaker set up will be finalized in his meeting with the law minister Farooq H. Naek and information minister Qamar Zaman Kaira next week.
