EC: Security arrangements of voter’s verification process in Karachi discussed

Islamabad: The members of Election Commission EC on Wednesday held meeting with Secretary Ministry of Defence and discussed matters pertaining to security arrangements of electoral rolls verification process in Karachi. The meeting was held in relation to the demand of the leaders of political parties staging sit-in outside office of Provincial Election Commissioner.

During the meeting the Secretary‚ Ministry of Defence assured that provision of secure environment for door to door verification exercise being undertaken by the Election Commission was being taken care of and will also be ensured in future.
Both sides agreed to undertake special security measures in potentially troubled areas. Security arrangements will be extended on required basis to ensure a smooth and transparent verification process.

Secretary‚ Ministry of Defence has also informed the Commission that an Army Assistance Cell has been collocated in the office of the Provincial Election Commissioner‚ Sindh for better coordination between Election Commission and Military authorities in Karachi.

Detailed coordination will be done by the Provincial Election Commissioner‚ Sindh and his staff with military authorities in Karachi and the arrangements will be reviewed periodically through meetings at Provincial and Central levels, it said in meeting.

Towards the end of the meeting‚ the Secretary Defence assured the Election Commission that all steps have been taken to ensure the security for electoral rolls verification exercise being carried out by Election Commission of Pakistan in Karachi.
