ECP: Election schedule to be announced after 10 days: Ishtiaque Ahmed

Islamabad: Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaque Ahmed has said that election schedule will be announced after 10 days when the present assemblies will be dissolved.

He stated this while briefing the media persons after a meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Fakharuddin G. Ibrahim. Chairman NAB‚ Chairman NADRA and Governor State Bank have also attended the meeting.

He said that election process is already in progress and the commission has already notified the names of Returning and Assistant District Returning officers and is receiving applications from the political parties for allotment of symbols.

He said that in this short period we have to develop our system including on lining confirmation of the nomination papers and on the other side the manual system.

Responding a question he said that today (Thursday) meeting will be held in the Election Commission to finalize the nomination paper formate. The meeting will be attended by Parliamentary Committee and the Ministry of Law. After its approval it would be sent to President for approval‚ then it would be sent for printing.

A meeting of the Election Commission was held in Islamabad to adopt such steps which would be taken against convicted loan defaulters and tax evaders who want to contest the next general elections in the country, he added.

Secretary said that a cell has been set up in the Election Commission with the members of NAB‚ State Bank and FBR to verify the nomination papers of the candidates online and manually. This cell would continue to work till the holding of the elections and if needed it will extend its working after the election process, he added.

Replying an other question about regularization of employees in Punjab province‚ he said it would be reviewed in accordance to the law. He said all arrangements have been completed for the holding of fair‚ free and impartial elections.
