KARACHI: The participation of Egyptian business delegation has been a regular phenomena from the last many years. But keeping in view the political and security situation in Egypt, the participation of 20 participants in 8th Expo Pakistan will go a long way in promoting Pakistani export products to Egypt as well bilateral relations between the two
brotherly countries. For the first time a high ranking government functionary, Maj. Gen Alaa Abdel Karem (Chairman General Organization of Exports and Imports Controls, Egypt) and Ms. Fathia El Dakhany renowned journalist of daily Misr alyoum to cover the event participated in the expo.
Egypt a country of 90 million population,$ 540 billion GDP with $ 60 billion imports provides a substantial potential to increase exports and bilateral trade. The volume of Pakistani exports to Egypt is $ 220 million. The major export items consists of Textiles, Seafood, Rice, Plastic goods and safety matches .The Egyptian delegation participated in the expo
Pakistan with utmost zeal to increase trade links. The participants showed great interest in the products displayed and as well as visited different factories, showrooms and business outlets to finalize business deals.
The highest number of deals were made in home textiles and woven fabric, rice, seafood, surgical and safety instruments, plastic products, marble etc. While for the first time productive meetings were held to start export of red meat, poultry items and motorcycles and its parts as Egypt has a huge consumption of these items. Further, effective meetings on export of
new items like marble, polystyrene, different items of home textiles, electric fans, cutlery items, gem stones and dying products.
Besides the business to business meetings the delegation held meeting with Khurram Dastagir, Minister of state for commerce, Qasim Niaz Secretary of commerce and Secretary TDAP. It was agreed during the meetings to increase cooperation and enhance trade links. The head of Egyptian import and export controls extended invitation to the Minister of State to visit Egypt to explore new avenues of trade promotion, which was graciously accepted by the Minister of State. Both sides agreed to convene the joint business council meeting on priority.
The head of Egyptian imports and exports visited customs house, Karachi and held meeting with Mr. Muhammad Yahya and Mr. Nasir Masroor, Chief Collector of customs. It was agreed in the meeting to work on the frame work of cooperation and assistance in the inspection of goods, standardization and quality controls. It was decided to work on the possibility of Pre shipment inspection to facilitate the traders.
The Egyptian business delegation also held meeting with Federation of Chamber of Commerce. The President FPCCI welcomed the delegation and identified the different sector in which both sectors can increase trade links and make investments in joint ventures. It was also agreed to Convene the first meeting of Joint Business Council in February next year. It was
agreed that being corridor to North and central Africa economic contacts with Egypt to be increased. It was also agreed to examine the possibility of linking a Pakistan Tv channel with the Egyptian Nile sat in order to convey a soft image of Pakistan and possible avenue of trade and investment.
