Election Tribunal dismisses appeal of Murad Shah

Karachi: The Election Tribunal in the Sindh High Court SHC on Tuesday dismissed the appeal of PPP’s Murad Ali Shah candidate from PS76 challenging rejection of his nomination papers and upheld the decision of returning officer.

Returning officer has rejected the nomination papers of former provincial finance minister, Murad Ali Shah contesting election from PS76 on the basis that he did not satisfy the requirements of paragraph d and f of clause 1 of Article 26 which requires a candidate to be good character honest and ameen as he held dual nationality Pakistani and Canadian and contested general elections in 2007 but not disclosed this fact.

Tribunal observing that Shah still held the dual citizenship dismissed his plea. However, the tribunal on Tuesday heard 32 appeals and dismissed 11 of them.

It also accepted the nomination papers of seven applicants.
