Peshawar: Participants at a Consultative workshop stressed the need for proper skill training healthcare providers to convey a positive message about Sexual and Reproductive Health SRH and practices for Adolescent Girls and Young Mothers.
The consultative workshop titled, “Advocating for improving Maternal and Neonatal Health MNH and Sexual and Reproductive Health SRH policy and practices for Adolescent Girls and Young Mothers” organized by Rahnuma, Family Planning Association of Pakistan FPAP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa here at a local hotel on Tuesday.
The participants include representatives of different government departments and nongovernmental organization NGOs working on MNH, PPH and other issues related to adolescent girls and young mothers, media persons, Secretary Population department Zaffar Ali Shah, ex-MPA of JUIF regional director FPAP Gohar Zaman, Amina of the organisation, Sohail Kaka Khel and others.
Amina in her detail presentation said that girls in age of 15 years married as compared to age of 20 years face more complications even during childbirth due to lack of basic information regarding their health prior to marriage.
She said that the adolescent girls and young mothers are needed for information legal and social support, physical, psychological and counselling regarding their health but unfortunately owing to society norms, there is a gap between adolescent girls and their mothers regarding SRH, which she added cause difficulties to the girls after marriage.
The participants appreciated the resolution regarding adolescent girls and young mothers in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly some months back tabled by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) woman MPA Uzma Khan.
The ex-MPA of JUIF on the occasion assured the participants that she would try her best to implement the resolution with true letter and spirit in the province if her party came into power. However, she added that she would continue her mission to implement it whether she would be part of the legislature or not. In the consultative work the representatives of NGOs regarding adolescent girls and young mothers gave several suggestions. Secretary population also spoke on the occasion.
