Five policemen gunned down in Karachi

KARACHI: Five policemen were shot dead in different areas of the city on Saturday. Four police personnel were killed overnight in terrorists attack near Bagh Korangi, Shah Faisal Bridge, within the remit of Sharafi Goth police station.

According to police, a Sharafi Goth police party was conducting patrolling in its area when armed men attacked on their mobile van near Bagh Korangi in Landhi. Resultantly, four policemen Constables Ghulam Sarwar, Constable Muhammad Afzal; Havaldar Ghulam Shabbir and Havaldar Zulfiqar critically injured in the incident.

The three of the injured died on way to hospital, while fourth succumbed to injuries during treatment at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center JPMC. The bodies of three killed policemen were moved to JPMC for medicolegal formalities.

Police said unidentified armed men targeted the police mobile on a flyover that links Shah Faisal Colony to Korangi.

Separately, a 50yearold police head constable, Muhammad Riaz, son of Baqir, was shot dead in Orangi Town, within the jurisdiction of Pirabad police station. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital ASH for an autopsy.

Police said Riaz was on his way to duty when armed men targeted him. Police have registered an FIR against unidentified men.
