Islamabad: Two former premiers and accused in the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) corruption case Yousaf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervez Ashraf appeared before the accountability court on Tuesday where Gilani got permanent exemption from appearance before court.
The two ex-prime ministers were made accused in a reference pertaining to the illegal appointment of former OGRA Chief Tauqeer Sadiq. During proceedings Gilani’s lawyer Amjad Iqbal Qureshi pleaded the court to provide permanent exemption to his client in the backdrop of security issues.
He stated that former Prime Minister Yousaf Raz Gilani’s son was still missing and had not been recovered yet. The court then approved the plea and granted exemption to Gilani from appearing in the court.
The hearing was later adjourned till March 5. Later taking to media persons Yousaf Raza Gilani said that he respects judiciary and always ensured his presence whenever summoned.
