Former Sec Pakistan Olympic Association Latif Butt passes away (Daily Balochistan Express (Pakistan))

Former Secretary, Pakistan Olympic Association, Mohammad Latif Butt was buried here on Thursday afternoon at Model Town graveyard.

The-80-year old was sick for the last three months and he breathed his last early on Thursday morning.

At the helm of POA affairs as secretary since 1990, Latif cited poor health as the reason for his resignation in 2005 after establishing himself a well respected sports administrator, organizer and advisor.

He remained associated with the Pakistan Swimming Federation as its Secretary and President for nearly three decades. He was a former director sports, Government college Lahore

In 2007, Latif Butt became the country’s second and the World 8th sports person, who was conferred ANOC Merit Awards by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).The award for Latif was announced in 1998 and conferred on him in the last OCA General Council meeting, which was held in Kuwait on April 17.

His funeral procession was taken out from his residence 170-D Model Town and was attended by family members, relatives, member international Olympic committee in Pakistan, syed Shahid Ali Shah, President,Pakistan Olympic Association, Lt Gen retd Syed Arif Hasan, Secretary, Mohammad Khalid Mahmood, officials of various national sports federation, and officials of number of provincial sports association, and Punjab Olympic Association, friends and sports journalists.

His qul will be held tomorrow, Friday after Asar prayers at his residence.
