FPCCI to facilitate in promoting business ties with Taiwan

Karachi: Pakistan Taiwan Business Council of FPCCI will be formed to facilitate the business community of both countries and explore new avenues for promotion of joint ventures and bilateral trade and economic relations. This was announced by Zubair Ahmed Malik President FPCCI in a meeting with a 30member delegation from Taiwan at Federation House here Friday.

He emphasized on the need for adoption of such policies as conducive to the trade development between the two countries. He further proposed to the Taiwanese side that TAITRA may open its liaison office in Pakistan to carry out business activities and accelerate the pace of momentum for interaction between the business community of both the countries. FPCCI also intends to reciprocate the same facility in Taiwan, he further stated. Opening of trade office in both the countries will contribute in enhancement of volume of bilateral trade which is at the moment is US$ 631 million. He further stressed the need for exchange of delegation and exhibitions on reciprocal basis.

He particularly pointed out that the great impediment in promotion of bilateral trade between two countries is visa facility. He suggested to Taiwanese delegation to take up this matter at the highest level at their end so that the visa could be granted at airport at Taipei. He also suggested taking up the same issue with Ministry of Interior of Pakistan.

He further re-iterated that in collaboration with Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) he will soon lead a delegation for the interaction with the business community. He also suggested the Taiwanese delegation for frequent visit to Pakistan which may also include the visit to Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Gujarat which are industrial cities.

The joint ventures in the area of power sector projects, mineral resources, high-tech machinery, infrastructure, iron and steel, railways, construction etc can enhance bilateral economic relations, he said.

The leader of Taiwanese delegation Ms Helen Lin disclosed that their visit has been so successful in Pakistan and the members of the delegation have succeeded in securing exports order to the tune of US$ 5 million in various products such as steel coils, Diapers, sanitary items rubber products etc.

The delegation declared their visit as a most successful and encouraging.

She further said that the success of this visit will encourage the other Taiwanese businessmen to see Pakistan as a potential country. She assured that TAITRA will soon send a delegation as a follow up of this visit in the month of September.

Gulzar Feroz Vice President FPCCI while giving his concluding remarks and stated the frequent exchange of delegation will enhance our bilateral economic and trade relations and the issues identified during the meeting are genuine and should be taken up with the relevant authorities for prompt action as it was the need of the hour.
