Govt deficit will be overcome by utilizing non-profitable assets, unused properties: PM

Prime Minister Imran Khan has called for utilization of thousands of acres of unused public lands to curtail the country's fiscal deficit and boost the development process.

Chairing a meeting to review progress on privatization process of government properties and assets in Islamabad, he said action would be taken against the government officials involved in concealment of information about public assets.

The Prime Minister said the non-use of non-profit and unutilized public properties in a country which has to pay around seven billion rupees per day in debt-servicing alone, is not understandable.

He also directed the authorities concerned for early finalization of the rules and regulations regarding construction of multi-storey buildings in the country.

Secretary Privatization briefed the meeting about the progress on privatization of various government assets, including Haveli Bahadur Shah and Balloki Power Plants, SME Bank, Jinnah Convention Center, government stake in Mari Petroleum and Lakhra Coalmine.
