Hayat takes over additional charge of KPT chairman

KARACHI: KPT’s GM Operations, Rear Admiral Azhar Hayat, has taken over additional charge of Chairman Karachi Port Trust.

He has taken charge from the outgoing Chairman Jawed Hanif Khan. Admiral Azhar Hayat, already serving in Karachi Port Trust as General Manager Operations since 2008, possesses vast experience of the maritime sector through Pakistan Navy as well as Operational head of the Port, he envisions to strategic improvements in the Port Trust.

He is a graduate of British Royal Naval College Dartmouth, while working in the Armed Forces of Navy, his last appointment before joining KPT was as DS at National Defence University LNU.

He has commanded many ships of Pakistan Navy and participated in many National and International courses. He has qualified Masters from NDU and has done a course on Defence Resource Management from USA.

During Azhar Hayat’s career in KPT, he supervised timely refloatation of 3 grounded container ships, thereby saving property worth millions of dollars and preventing further damage.

His timely initiative also resulted in rescuing different ships in difficult weather conditions. He has been instrumental in realizing the improvements and enhanced capacity building in the operations related activities of the Port.
