Heavy rains force organizers to postpone tennis tourney

Karachi: Heavy rains in Islamabad forced organizers of 3rd Syed Tajammul Abbas National Ranking Tennis Championships to postpone and rescheduled the event.

The tournament, which was to begin on August 19 at S. Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex, would now begin from August 20 as heavy rains in the capital made it impossible for the organizers to organize the event as scheduled.

This tournament is organized to pay tribute to Shaheed Late Commissioner Sargodha Syed Tajammul Abbas a well reputed Civil Servant who while playing tennis in Sargodha Club was assassinated in a belligerent action of terrorism. He was a sports lover and always promoted the sporting activities in his life specially the game of tennis.

Top players of the country Aqeel Khan, Yasir Khan, Muhammad Abid, Usman Rafiq, Sanaullah Khan and Usman Ijaz would be seen in action during the tournament.

More than 70 players are participating in the tournament. The events in the tournament include men’s singles, boy’s U18 singles, men’s doubles, ladies singles and senior 55 plus doubles. The tournament offers a prize purse of Rs 250,000.
