Peshawar: Chief Minister Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak termed the jail break in D.I.Khan a total failure of intelligence agencies said that high profile people could be involved in the jail break.
Talking to media at the premises of Provincial Assembly Chief Minister said. In a briefing he had been informed that security at prisons had been increased but despite this measure, the jailbreak took place. He said that action will be taken against all those who were failed to perform their duties. “it was not an easy task. Some high profile people could be involved in this break out. But will punish all those involved in the incident,” he said.
Pervez Khattak confirmed that 35 most wanted people were among 200 other prisoners who were freed from D.I.Khan jail when Taliban stormed the jail. He said that he was planning to travel to Dera Ismail Khan and tour the prison but due to bad weather the tour had been postponed.
Replying to a question Chief Minister said that he was not aware about any letter received by Inspector General of Police regarding danger of attack on the prison, He has also directed authorities to enhance security at prisons across the province.
As many as 243 prisoners escaped as militants carrying heavy weapons stormed Dera Ismail Khan’s Central Jail. The attack on the hundred year old detention facility was blamed on weak security arrangements where inmates belonging to various banned organizations were held. Nine people including six policemen were killed and 14 others injured in the audacious attack while four prisoners were also killed by security forces.
