ICRC, IFRCS delegations meet Governor

QUETTA: International Committee of Red Cross ICRC and International Federation of Red Crescent Societies IFRCS Pakistan Red Crescent Society in Balochistan during natural calamities. They still want to work in the province but owing to security reasons they have limited their activities particularly after murder of an official of ICRC they were facing difficulties. This is the reason international donors are reluctant to go to Balochistan.

These views were expressed by delegations of ICRS and IFRCS during their meeting with Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai in Islamabad Wednesday.

ICRS and IFRCS delegations requested the Governor that details of murder of ICRC official should be provided who is involved in his killing. They said their cooperation would continue till September this year. But to continue this cooperation here will be periodical review.

Appreciating their performance Governor Achakzai stressed ICRS and IFRCS to continue their work in Balochistan. They would be provided all possible security in this regard.

Referring to basic health Units working under IFRCS, Governor said these are located in comparatively peaceful areas and they would continue to work. Balochistan Governor said efforts were underway to eliminate terrorism and improving law and order in the province and provincial government was paying special attention to this end. He hoped that cooperation of ICRS and IFRCS would continue in the province.
