Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has strongly opposed the idea of shifting of educational institutions including schools and colleges from the Islamia College Complex building, fearing it would disrupt study of some 20000 students of low-income Karachi families and may create serious consequences
JI Karachi chapter amir Muhammad Hussain Mehanti a meeting with a delegation of ‘Students’ Action Committee’ at Idara-e-Noor Haq on Monday evening charged a builders’ mafia wanted to grab the precious land at the cost of future of 20000 students, which is not acceptable. He said that it is injustice to punish these students for the of negligence of the Sind government bureaucracy. He appealed the court to review its verdict given in order to vacate the Islamia Complex building against non-payment of the rent of the educational institutions established there. He also appealed the court to make the provincial government bound to pay the outstanding rent as soon as possible.
The delegation apprised JI leader that four colleges and three schools are running in the Islamia College Complex in which more than 20,000 students are getting education.
Mehanti assured his full cooperation to the delegation and said that the punishment of the incompetence of the bureaucracy should not be given to the innocent students.
Separately Mehanti said that the JI leadership will bring back peace and past glory to Karachi, the city of lights.
Addressing a convention of the JI candidates for coming general elections, at Idara-e-Noor Haq, he the vested interests of befooling the people of Karachi and it should be now stopped. He said it was the former coalition government that made Karachi a human slaughterhouse. He said the upcoming elections will decide the fate of these elements.
Mehanti regretted that the SC verdicts on the rectification of electoral rolls and delimitation were not being implemented on letter and spirit.
He said his party will a launch ‘Awami Rabita’ (public contact) campaign, despite the poor law and order situation of Karachi. He asked his cadres to initiate door-to-door campaign and convince the people that they should vote for the honest leadership, if they want to eliminate target killing, extortion, street crime and lawlessness. “JI will provide justice according to the teachings of Quran and Sunnah, when it came into power”, Mehanti added.
