JI concerned over Chief Election Commissioner’s statement

Karachi: Ameer, Jamaat-e-Islami, Karachi Muhammad Hussain Mahenti has expressed concern on the reported statement of Chief Election Commissioner Justice ® Fakhuruddin G. Ibrahim regarding deployment of Army only at sensitive polling stations in the city.

In a statement on Friday, Mahenti said such a change in decision shows that CEC has come under the pressure of a fascist organization. “It’s essential to deploy army at all the polling stations of Karachi to ensure fair and transparent elections,” he added.

He said Election Commission in its meeting on December 13 at Islamabad had decided fresh delimitation in Karachi. “The EC has to conduct the delimitation in Karachi under the supervision of army,” he said.

JI leader contended that CEC’s statement was contrary to the ground realities and urged him to implement the verdict of Supreme Court.
