JI condemns killing of Hakim Barkati

Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami JI amir Syed Munawar Hasan, secretary general Liaqat Baloch, JI Sindh chapter amir Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui and acting amir of JI Karachi Birjees Ahmed here Wednesday strongly condemned the target killing of senior citizen, Hakim Mehmood Ahmed Barkati.

They said 90 years old presidential award winner Hakim Mehmood Ahmed Barkati was sitting in his clinic at F B Area when armed terrorists following his son Mujahid Barkati, a JI leader and ex-UC nazim of Gulberg, entered his clinic and opened firing on him. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital but he breathed his last before reaching the hospital. The deceased left behind four sons and three daughters.

The slain Hakim Mehmood Ahmed Barkati was writer of 40 books. His last book, with 1000 pages, was in final stage, but the terrorists gunned him down before completing this work. He was a close aide of Hakim Said Shaheed, who was also gunned down by terrorists in Karachi. He was the first practitioner of eastern medicine in Pakistan who was bestowed doctorate degree in medicine by Hamdard University Karachi. The government of Pakistan in recognition to his services has bestowed the Presidential Award on him in the year 2001.

The deceased would be laid to rest in Karachi on Thursday.
