JI demands withdrawal in power tariff increase

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami JI Karachi Chief Muhammad Hussain Mehanti has strongly criticised the recent increase in electricity tariff, demanding immediate withdrawal of the tariff hike.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the JI Karachi chief expressed deep concern over the increase in the power tariff and termed it an entirely anti-people step by the government.

He feared that the confidence of the people which they had expressed in the PMLN government might sever, if the government continued to take anti-people steps. He demanded of the Prime Minister to take prompt action in this regard and refrain the Federal Minister for Power and Water from taking such step.

“Increase of power tariff by 15 percent per unit for residential consumers and 56 percent for industrial consumers is tantamount as “drone attack” on the people, who were already being faced record inflation”, Mehanti added.

He further said that the ongoing policies of the PMLN were similar to the policies of previous PPP government and it seem that the present government is the continuity of the previous government, as it has already been increased POL and power prices in just three months.

JI Karachi Chief further demanded of the Prime Minister to take immediate steps for the eradication of the loadshedding from the country.
