JI opposes rise in sales tax

Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami JI has demanded of the government to immediately withdraw the increase in Sales Tax. In a statement issued here on Sunday, JI former lawmakers Muzaffar Ahmed Hashmi, Laeeq Khan, Nasrullah Khan Shajih, Hameedullah Khan Advocate and Younus Barai said that the government instead of increasing Sales Tax should bring ‘big fish’ into the tax net.

“If the government, instead of increasing Sales Tax, takes measures to increase the tax revenue, it will definitely put a positive effect on the economy”, JI leaders added. They said that the public has rejected the increase in Sales Tax and appealed the Chief Justice of Pakistan to intervene again.
