JI welcomes lifting of pillion riding ban

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami JI Karachi Chief Muhammad Hussain Mehanti has welcomed the decision of provincial government in connection with lifting the ban on pillion riding.

In a statement issued here on Monday, JI Karachi chief said that the provincial government should have lifted the ban impose on pillion riding earlier, as around six million people had been affected by it, adding that the ban also proved ineffective in order to curb terrorism activities.

Mehanti said that the JI considered the ban on pillion riding against the basic norms of human rights, and that was why it had demanded of the government to lift it.

Commenting on pillion riding ban, JI Karachi chief said that the ban was only affecting the common men, as there was already a shortage of public transport, however; no improvement had yet been seen by the ban imposed on pillion riding.

Mehanti urged the government to refrain by taking such steps in the future, as those steps were tantamount to engulf basic rights of common men. It is pertinent to mention here that the JI had filed a petition in court against pillion riding ban and also demanded of the Sindh Chief Minister to lift the ban immediately.
