Karachi: Secretary General, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Sindh former senator Dr. Khalid Mahmood Soomro urged the provincial government of PPP to resolve the issue of shortage of irrigation water if its honeymoon period is over.
“Sindh is faced with acute water shortage. The standing crops were drying up due to water shortage but now there is no water even for drinking purpose in rural areas of province. The big land-holders (Waderas) who are part of the government, are stealing the water to irrigate their crops but nobody is there to address the problems of small land holders and peasants,” he said in a statement on Monday.
“The small growers in Badin, Talhar, Tando Jam, Dadu district and Kachho area are living a miserable life as their crops are drying and cattle are dying for want of water,” he added.
JUI leader said the growers have setup protest camp in Badin since last 18 days but the government was still enjoying honeymoon neglecting the grave issue. “In fact the influential persons of PPP government have got sanctioned direct watercourses for their agricultural lands.
