Karachi, Jakarta chambers ink MoU

Karachi: The President of the Jakarta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), Eddy Kuntadi and the President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Abdullah Zaki signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the KCCI and the JCCI in Merchantile Executive Club, World Trade Centre Jakarta on Monday.

The signing ceremony was attended by Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan (Burhan Muhammad), Indonesian Consul General in Karachi (Rossalis R. Adenan) and Charge d’Affaires of Pakistan Embassy in Jakarta (Syed Sajjad Haider).

The ceremony was also attended by Indonesian businessmen members of the JCCI, some Pakistani businessmen who attended the Indonesian Trade Expo 2013 and some members of Board of Committee of the JCCI as well as some officials of Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and some diplomatic staffs of Pakistani Embassy in Jakarta.

The MoU comprising of 12 articles emphasizing the commitment of the two sides to further cooperate in friendly and cordial relations through an increased cooperation mode among the industrialists, businessmen and entrepreneurs of the two Chambers for the enhancement of trade and commerce between Indonesia and Pakistan.

In his remarks, the President of JCCI among others emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation of the two Chambers amidst the current global economic slowdown. Therefore, the MoU will play an important and strategic role for increasing the bilateral trade volume and economic growth of the two brotherly countries. He also emphasized the fact that the MoU will also play a very important role in following up the implementation of the Preferential Trade Agreement between the two countries which started entering into force on 1st September 2013. He believed that the MoU will be beneficial to both Chambers, and hoped that Indonesian export to Pakistan and other countries in Central of Asia through Karachi will be increased in the years ahead.

The President of the KCCI in his remarks, among others thanks to the Indonesian Ambassador in Islamabad and Indonesian Consul General in Karachi for their outstanding services for the promotion of bilateral trade relations between Indonesia and Pakistan. He also elaborated the current bilateral economic relations and potentials the two countries have which should be further elaborated through the implementation of this MoU for the benefit of the two sides. He hoped that the MoU will prove milestone in strengthening the business relations between Indonesia and Pakistan in coming days.

Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan in his speech among others mentioned the economic and commercial potentials that the two countries have which should be further explored for the benefit of the two countries. He believed that the signing of the MoU will be followed up by concrete actions which will be beneficial and advantageous to both sides.

After the signing ceremony, the Chairman of the MoU Committee of the KCCI (Junaid Makda) presented his paper on the economic and commercial opportunities in Sindh Province and the role of the KCCI in economic development of Pakistan which was appreciated by those who attending the ceremony.

At the end of the ceremony, the Presidents of the two Chambers exchanged momentoes, and had lunch together with the guests and all of the participants who attended the ceremony.
