Karachi operation: Demand not to harass innocent people in raids

Karachi: Karachi police is hoodwinking people and judiciary by taking dispirited actions in the city instead of bravely taking on the real extortionists and criminals of Karachi who have made the life of people miserable, demanded PASBAN Pakistan president Altaf Shakoor, addressing a crowded press conference at Karachi Press Club KPC here on Wednesday.

He said the law enforcing agencies due to the pressure of Supreme Court are now conducting an operation in Karachi, which they should have carried out decades ago. He said criminals, terrorists and extortionists have made the city a living hell for innocent people. He said people belonging to all walks of life have been demanding for long to take result oriented actions against the law breakers but all their cries have fallen on deaf ear.

He said due to rampant bribery and political intervention in police department the real criminals have gone to their safe hideouts, while to misguide the people and judiciary, our police and other law enforcing agencies are often arresting innocent people, which shows the lack of seriousness on behalf of police and other government departments.

On the occasion, Pasban Karachi chapter president Shaikh Muhammad Shakeel said last year on the first of Ramzan the notorious land grabber and extortionist mafia of Jannat Gul had martyred four traders of AlAsif Square on non-payment of extortion Bhatta. He said the residents and traders of AlAsif showing courage had filed FIR number 508/12 against the killers and their don Jannat Gul. This case is under trial in Antiterrorist Court. He said however the police are trying its best to save the real culprits. He said the police in their FIR had mentioned the accused as absconders while in fact they roam scot-free in Suhrab Goth area. He said the police and administration are harassing citizens that they would be implicated in fake cases if they dared raising voice against Jannat Gul mafia. In this regard he quoted example of FIR number 920/12 in which those people are nominated who raised voice against the extortionists.

He said on the night between April 4 and 5 rangers conducted a targeted operation in AlAsif area and whisked away Saeedal, Qudratullah, Haji Ghulam and Nawazish. Later, Qudratullah, Haji Ghulam and Nawazish were released after brutal torture, while the whereabouts of Saeedal are still not known despite passage of 13 days and nobody knows if he is dead or alive. He disclosed that Saeedal is complainant in the FIR number 508/12.

He said in this regard many applications have been sent to DG Rangers but to no avail. He said this disappearance of a peaceful citizen is against the law and constitution.

On the occasion, the mother and brother of Saeedal also spoke and said the life of Saeedal is in danger. They demanded if he is wanted in any case, the law enforcers should show his arrest and present him before the court of law. They demanded that blind actions on weak intelligence reports should be avoided and peace loving citizens should not be harassed.
