Karachiites hit by CNG stations closure

KARACHI: The CNG stations closure badly affected taxis, cars, vans and rickshaws’ drivers and commuters in the city on Friday.

The public transport, which was almost off the roads, was also hit by the gas closure which has become a usual practice.

It was announced on Thursday that all CNG stations in Sindh will remain closed for 24 hours from 8:00 am on February 08 till 8:00 am on February 9, 2013.

The gas stations closure caused immense problems to the commuters as they had to pay high fare in taxis and other means of transport to reach their offices and other destination.

The closure seemed to be unjustified act as there was no such practice before the Supreme Court took notice of high CNG prices and reduced them to a reasonable level, which was widely held by civil society.

The present government seems to be less interested to resolve CNG closure issue that is hitting economy hard, besides causing inflation in Karachi and rest parts of the country.

The democratic government led by President Asif Ali Zardari need to take notice of this issue like the Supreme Court and resolve it amicably so that people of the country could take sigh of relief from the menace of unjustified CNG load shedding.
