KCCI decries eight-hours-a-day load shedding

Karachi: Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) President Muhammad Haroon Agar has expressed deep concern over announcement of eight hours load-shedding/ power-cuts in all the industrial areas/ zones of Karachi due to alleged drastic reduction in gas supply by the Sui-Southern Gas Company (SSGC) as stated by Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC).

President KCCI stated that KESC’s power load-shedding of two spells of four-hours each in the morning and evening has crippled the industrial activities in all the seven industrial zones.

He said that in the present economic scenario, the industries which have already been facing several hardships owing to gas outages and low gas pressure, multiplicity of taxes and high operational costs, cannot afford power load-shedding causing heavy financial losses and further increase in the operational costs.

The export-oriented industries are fatally hit by this abrupt and prolonged power load-shedding inflicting severe hindrance in timely completion of export orders and an upshot in the cost of production.

Haroon Agar demanded the Caretaker Prime Minister to intervene in this matter to ensure uninterrupted power supply to all the industrial zones of Karachi by KESC.
