Karachi: Karachi Electric Supply Company KESC here Tuesday expressed concern over incidents of copper wire theft.
In a release said on Tuesday morning unknown thieves stole away around 40 meters of precious EHT conductor and damaged a number of poles in the process at the Malir-Gadap Extra High Tension Transmission EHT Circuit. Special teams were working to restore the network; however, it may take two to three days.
KESC teams later recovered a small portion of the stolen wire from a nearby water pond by following the drag marks. The thieves caused extensive damage as 18 poles at 9 different locations were found severely damaged, which in turn also caused the 66 kV Malir-Gadap High Tension Transmission Circuit to trip affecting the Gadap Grid Station.
KESC urged the government to view the theft incidents as sabotage to essential interest of 20 million population of Karachi.
