KMC Administrator meets high level delegation of World Bank

Karachi: KMC Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed has said that 24 departments on local level collect almost 12 thousand ton garbage from different areas of Karachi which was delivered to 3 landfill sites of KMC.

He said this during a high level meeting with the World Bank delegation in his office.

On this occasion Professor David E Dowall from University of California, Sr. Manager Urban Development & Water Plan & Sanitation South Asian Region Ming Zhang, Sr. Urban Specialist South Asia Development Department Fatima Zehra Shah, Sr. Director Municipal Services Dr. Shaukat Zaman, Sr. Director Master Plan Iftikhar Kaimkhani, Chief Officer Gulshan-e-Iqbal Shafiqur Rehman, Director General Foreign Affairs Atiq Baig and other officers were present.

He said that discussions were held with different companies of Turkey, Britain and Iran whereas the Cook Consultancy Department of Britain was preparing a comprehensive study report of Karachi on Solid Waste which would be completed in next 3 months.

He said that 12 thousand ton garbage accumulates in Karachi on daily basis for which KMC and 18 towns would have to opt an automatic and comprehensive policy.

He said Karachi was included one of 10 big cities of the world and 20 different departments had its land control due to which various problems occurred and some departments did not perform their responsibilities properly for which KMC was responsible whereas KMC was responsible for cleanliness of big corridors and cleanliness of inside roads and streets was done by concerned towns.

He said all municipal departments were lacking funds however cleanliness of city could not be left due to low funds.

On this occasion high level delegation of World Bank was given briefing about Karachi Master Plan 2020, Karachi Circular Railway, Bus Rapid System and CNG Buses.

The head of World Bank Delegation said that Bank wants to provide KMC with funds on easy terms so that development projects and infrastructure of Karachi could improve.

He said that measures would be taken in the light of this briefing soon.
