KARACHI: KMC Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi has said that KMC would provide every possible support in establishment of Emergency Response Centre and installation of Video Surveillance Cameras on Mehran Highway and other important roads so that most part of the city could be linked to Central Command & Control System.
He said this during a meeting with the delegation of Japan International Cooperation Agency JICA which under supervision of Mr. Tomishige called on Administrator Karachi in his office. On this occasion Director General Technical Services Niaz Ahmed Soomro and Sr. Director Municipal Services Masood Alam were also present. JICA delegation on this occasion reviewed Security Improvement Project of Mehran Highway and gave their recommendations in this regard.
They expressed desire that Security Surveillance Cameras should be installed on appropriate distance on Mehran Highway and an Emergency Response Centre should be established where prompt help could be provided in case of any emergency or incident. Afterwards JICA delegation visited Command & Control Centre in Civic Centre and admired live video surveillance and monitoring of roads and corridors and urged the need of linking Surveillance System of Mehran Highway with Command & Control Centre.
Earlier Administrator Karachi said that more capacity for JICA cooperation in various development projects of Karachi was available especially Japan experiments and expertise could be availed in installation of CCTV cameras, drainage system, cleanliness of nullahs and solid waste management system and in other sectors as well. He expressed hope that Mehran Highway Project being constructed with the collaboration of JICA will be an ideal project which will perform a vital role in development of the city.
On this occasion it was informed that 5km Phase-II of Mehran Highway was being constructed with the collaboration of JICA with a cost of Rs450million whereas earlier Phase-I of this highway had been constructed with a cost of Rs300million whereas along with highway storm water drain with RCC Ceiling was also being constructed so that prompt drainage of rainwater could be ensured and completion of this highway will provide citizens with a wide road.
Mehran Highway will be pretty important for Landhi Industrial Zone and Export Processing Zone. People used to face inconvenience while visiting this area however construction of this highway will facilitate citizens as well as industrial area.
Administrator Karachi on this occasion directed Technical Services Department to ensure high standard quality material in construction of Mehran Highway and make this highway beautiful and sustainable which will be providing citizens and business community with facilities for a long time.
