Karachi: Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed said widening of University Road up to eight lanes on each side was planned whereas the remaining work of Jail Chowrangi Flyover will be started this month to facilitate extension of University Road up to Malir Cantt as an alternate way for access to Super Highway.
He said this while addressing a meeting held in his office to review the University Road Extension Plan. The meeting was attended by D.G Technical Services, D.G Parks, Sr. Director T&C and other officers.
In the briefing, it was informed that the busy University Road had been experiencing lot of traffic pressure especially at some points of this corridor which causes frequent traffic jams.
Administrator said this road was part of the Signal Free Corridor which was stretched between Preedy Street to Safoora Goth. The widening of this road was aimed at facilitating traffic plying on this road which was expected to increase further after its extension to the Malir Cantt. The Superhighway bound traffic would also use this road as alternate access route.
He said the completion of Jail Chowrangi Flyover would also facilitate traffic around the University Road and on link roads. He directed concerned officials to ensure timely completion of all development projects so that the citizens could be given more convenience in their daily life. He also directed to install pedestrian bridges on University Road.
