Karachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday put Karachi Metropolitan Coorporation (KMC) on a notice on three separate petitions seeking payment of salaries to the employees of the education department of the city government.
Headed by Justice Muneeb Akhtar, a division bench of SHC, was hearing the petitions filed by as many as 49 employees, who were working in the different grades in KMC schools. The petitioners, Zulifqar Ali and others, submitted that metropolitan commissioner had stopped the salaries of almost 87 employees since May 4, 2012. But later salaries were paid to the 27 employees.
They said that KMC had stopped the salaries of senior and regular employees, on the other hand more than 400 employees were appointed on contractual basis, who are regularly getting their salaries. They pleaded the court to direct KMC to release their salaries.
Learned counsel acting on behalf of KMC requested for allowing him to file comments. Though, the court issued notice to KMC, asking it to file comments.
