KMC warns of action against overcharging of parking fee

KARACHI: KMC Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan on Wednesday took strict notice of overcharging of parking fee and warned department concerned and contractors to stop such menace, otherwise disciplinary action would be taken and charged parking contract would be cancelled immediately.

He said this while addressing a meeting on parking of vehicles on various locations complains of citizens and problems of charged parking contractors, here. The meeting was attended by Director Charged Parking Raza Abbas Rizvi, concerned officers and contractors.

He said that complains of citizens should be resolved immediately and officers should go to locations and ensure that citizens were being charged set amount in respect of parking fee.

He said that charged parking should be a facility for citizens in spite of inconvenience and as Eidul Fitr was coming nearer rush of vehicles would raise around bazaars, shopping centers specially near areas which include Saddar, Tariq Road, Clifton, Hyderi, North Nazimabad, Zaibunnisa Street, Malir, Landhi, Shaheed-e-Millat Road, Liaquatabad, Karimabad.

If parking was not be settled systematically then traffic flow would be affected immensely therefore city wardens along with traffic police have also been deployed for maintenance of traffic flow in those areas so that citizens could be prevented from difficulties in rush hours.

He said that relevant officers and staff should concentrate that citizens should not be charged more than decided parking fee and fully cooperate with citizens and also display parking fee boards on charged parking locations. Metropolitan Commissioner also appealed TO citizens that they should make complains if they were being charged more than set parking fee so that disciplinary action against such contractors could be taken.

He also said that measures would be taken to curb encroachments and full action against encroachments would be taken. Metropolitan Commissioner directed Director Anti-Encroachment to take measures to curb encroachments in these rushing areas and also directed contractors to form a committee for presenting their recommendations.
